3. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly to us, information collected automatically when you use the Site, and information from third parties.
3.1 Information You Provide Directly
- Contact and identity information — name, email address, phone number, and mailing address, when you fill out a contact form, request information, or register for a program.
- Program application information — military service background, business interests, professional history, and other details you submit when applying to the VETtoCEO Business Accelerator or other programs.
- Event registration information — details you provide when signing up for webinars, workshops, or in-person events, including any optional questions you choose to answer.
- Communications — the contents of emails, messages, and other communications you send to us, along with any attachments.
- Newsletter and subscription preferences — your email address and topics of interest when you subscribe to our communications.
- Volunteer, mentor, and partner information — biographical details, qualifications, and contact information you provide if you offer to support our mission.
3.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you visit the Site, we and our service providers may automatically collect:
- Device and browser data — IP address, device type, operating system, browser type and version, language, and similar identifiers.
- Usage data — pages viewed, links clicked, time spent on pages, referring URLs, and dates and times of visits.
- Cookies and similar technologies — small data files placed on your device. See Section 7 for details.
3.3 Information from Third Parties
We may receive information about you from third parties, including:
- Event and webinar platforms that host our programming.
- Email and marketing service providers that process subscriptions, deliver communications, and report engagement.
- Payment processors and donation platforms when you make a donation through a linked third-party site (we receive limited transaction details, not your full payment card information).
- Social media platforms when you interact with our pages or posts, subject to those platforms' privacy settings.
- Partner organizations that refer veterans or families to our programs, where you have authorized the referral.
4. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Site and our programs.
- Respond to inquiries, applications, and other communications.
- Deliver the VETtoCEO Business Accelerator and other educational programming, including admissions, communications, and follow-up.
- Send newsletters, program announcements, event invitations, and other communications you have requested or that are reasonably related to your relationship with VETtoCEO.
- Acknowledge donations, issue tax receipts, and steward donor relationships when donation information is shared with us by our donation platform.
- Understand how the Site is used and improve content, performance, and user experience.
- Protect the security and integrity of the Site, prevent fraud and abuse, and enforce our terms.
- Comply with legal, regulatory, and reporting obligations applicable to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
- Carry out other purposes disclosed to you at the time of collection or with your consent.
5. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information.
We share information only as described below:
- Service providers. We share information with vendors that help us operate the Site and our programs — for example, website hosting, email and marketing platforms, customer relationship management (CRM) systems, webinar and event platforms, analytics providers, and payment or donation processors. These providers are authorized to use your information only as necessary to provide services to us.
- Program partners. With your consent or at your direction, we may share information with mentors, instructors, partner organizations, or sponsors involved in delivering a program in which you participate.
- Donation processing. When you click a donation link on the Site, you are directed to a third-party donation platform that processes the transaction under its own privacy policy. We may receive a confirmation containing your name, email, donation amount, and date so we can acknowledge your gift.
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information when we reasonably believe disclosure is required by law, subpoena, court order, or other legal process, or when necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of VETtoCEO, our participants, or others.
- Business transitions. If VETtoCEO is involved in a merger, asset transfer, restructuring, or similar transaction, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to standard confidentiality protections.
- Aggregated or de-identified information. We may share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you for any lawful purpose, including reporting to funders and the public on program impact.
6. Donations and Third-Party Donation Platforms
VETtoCEO does not process donations directly on the Site. When you click a "Donate" link or button, you are directed to a third-party donation platform. Your payment information — including credit card or bank account details — is collected and processed entirely by that platform under its own privacy policy and security practices. We encourage you to review the donation platform's privacy policy before completing a donation.
After a donation is made, we typically receive your name, email address, mailing address (if provided), donation amount, and date of donation so we can issue an acknowledgment, send a tax receipt, and steward your relationship with VETtoCEO. We treat this donor information as confidential.
7. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
The Site uses cookies, pixels, and similar technologies to operate properly, remember your preferences, measure performance, and improve the user experience.
We use the following categories of cookies and tracking technologies:
- Essential cookies required for the Site to function (for example, security and form-submission cookies).
- Analytics cookies that help us understand how visitors find and use the Site (for example, Google Analytics or similar tools).
- Functional cookies that remember preferences such as language or display choices.
- Marketing or advertising cookies, where used, to measure the performance of campaigns we run on social media or other platforms and to reach audiences interested in veteran entrepreneurship.
You can control cookies through your browser settings, including blocking or deleting cookies. Some features of the Site may not work properly if cookies are disabled. Most browsers also support a "Do Not Track" signal; because there is no industry consensus on how to respond to these signals, we currently do not respond to them, but we honor the cookie controls described above.
8. Email Communications
If you subscribe to our newsletter, register for a program, or contact us, we may send you emails about our programs, events, and impact. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time. Even if you opt out of marketing communications, we may still send you transactional or service-related messages, such as confirmations of program registration, donation acknowledgments, or important updates to this Policy.
9. Children's Privacy
The Site is intended for adults, including military veterans, transitioning service members, and family members aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, please contact [email protected] and we will delete the information.
10. How We Protect Information
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect the information we hold against loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. We also require our service providers to maintain appropriate security practices.
No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping any account credentials you use with our service providers confidential.
11. How Long We Keep Information
We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, to maintain the records of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and to comply with legal, accounting, and reporting obligations. Retention periods vary based on the type of information and the context in which it was collected. When information is no longer needed, we securely delete or de-identify it.
12. Your Choices and Rights
You have the following choices regarding your personal information:
- Access and update. You may request access to the personal information we hold about you and ask that we correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Deletion. You may ask us to delete personal information we hold about you, subject to our legal and recordkeeping obligations.
- Marketing opt-out. You may unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in the email or by contacting us.
- Cookie controls. You may manage cookies through your browser as described in Section 7.
To exercise any of these choices, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within a reasonable time and may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
13. Third-Party Links
The Site contains links to third-party websites, including donation platforms, partner organizations, social media platforms, and event platforms. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party site you visit.
14. Social Media
VETtoCEO maintains a presence on social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube. When you interact with our content on these platforms, the platform's own privacy policy governs your activity. If you access the Site from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those of your country of residence.
16. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, our programs, or applicable law. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice — for example, by posting a notice on the Site or sending an email to subscribers. Your continued use of the Site after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
